Joanne C. Allen
age 85, of E. China, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 14, 1922 in Detroit to the late Violet and Albert Wood.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Pershing High School Detroit and was a homemaker as well as a gifted seamstress.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Civil Air Patrol-parachute jumping and training where she met her beloved husband, James. They were married June 3, 1944 in Detroit and were a model for a wonderful marriage to all who knew them. James Allen passed away May 2, 2006.
She was very active in the Algonac Baptist Church for many years as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and member of their Dorcas Society. She was a Girl Scout Leader and developed lifelong friendships with the girls in her troop. Mrs. Allen was a volunteer at the March of Dimes office in Port Huron and was chairperson of the Walk America in Algonac.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her loving daughters, Joanne (Bill) Vandenabeele and Jan (Hugh) Jackson, grandchildren; Angela (John) Kolarik and James Vandenabeele, great grandchildren; Paul, Thomas, and Hannah Kolarik, step-grandchildren; Chris (Chanda) Vandenabeele, Tom Poynter, Laurie (Bob) Sullivan and several nieces and nephews. Predecease by a brother Albert William Wood.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday June 11, 2008 in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac. Visitation 10:00 AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes Walk America or Algonac Community Schools Education Enrichment Fund.
